Assets Ascending brings hope and healing to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated parents as they reunite with their children. Through compassionate programs for sober living, wellness, and parenting, we strive to mend hearts, rebuild lives, and restore the bonds of family and community
We are revolutionizing reentry success by transforming the way formerly incarcerated parents reintegrate into society. Our innovative, compassionate approaches go beyond traditional methods, ensuring these parents not only reunite with their children but also thrive in their communities. We envision a future where decision-makers prioritize support for our communities over incarceration.
Founded in 2023, our organization represents the realization of a deeply personal and transformative journey that began a decade earlier. In 2013, our founder, Vanessa, was incarcerated, leaving behind her infant daughter and adolescent son.
During her eight-year sentence, Vanessa experienced the overwhelming challenges faced by mothers in prison—barriers to communication, the emotional toll of separation, and the heartache of reentry without support. She witnessed the profound despair that set in when mothers were faced with the potential loss of their parental rights.
Driven by the urgency of these experiences, Vanessa spent five years crafting a plan with a singular goal: to help mothers reunite with their children after release, ensuring they had the support needed to rebuild their lives and families.
As a program director, Vanessa began implementing her vision, offering hope and tangible support to mothers in similar situations. Today, as the Executive Director of Assets Ascending of GA, Vanessa is advancing her mission, expanding the resources and networks available to ensure that family reunification is not just a possibility, but a reality.
With unwavering dedication, Vanessa has helped over 150 families navigate the complex and often overwhelming process of reunification, embodying the strength, resilience, and compassion that defines our organization.
Our team is made up of dedicated peer specialists who bring a deep understanding of mental health and addictive disease. What sets our staff apart is their lived experience—every member of our team is a formerly incarcerated parent who has successfully reunified with their children.
They have navigated the challenges of reentry, rebuilt their lives, and are now productive citizens giving back to their communities. Their journeys from incarceration to thriving in society make them powerful beacons of hope and resilience for the families we serve.
With compassion, expertise, and firsthand knowledge, our team is committed to guiding others through the reentry and reunification process, ensuring that no one has to walk this path alone.
We offer a range of courses designed to empower parents and support their journey to a fulfilling life. Our programs include Circle of Security Parenting (COSP), which focuses on infant attachment, Whole Health Action Management (WHAM), aimed at living a purposeful life, and the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), which emphasizes living in recovery. In addition to these courses, we provide connections to therapy, secondary and post-secondary education, peer support, and personalized guidance to help individuals and families achieve their personal goals.
This winter, we are excited to introduce our first-ever event offering cover-up tattoos as part of a therapeutic approach to healing. Designed for individuals who received tattoos during prison or while being trafficked, this event will provide relief and renewal by covering old tattoos or brands with new, meaningful designs. We’ve partnered with local artists who are generously offering their services for free, while Assets Ascending is raising funds to help cover the costs of setup and aftercare supplies. Our goal is to increase participants' confidence and credibility, removing hate messages from our world and transforming painful reminders into symbols of hope and strength.
Our Maintenance4Moms initiative assisted mothers with overdue car repairs, ensuring their safety, the safety of their families, and the safety of our community. This was a loan program, designed to empower mothers through responsibility and accountability. Each mother was paired with a local mechanic who provided onsite work at a discounted rate. This approach not only extended the life of their vehicles but also allowed these mothers to gain confidence and independence by giving them the opportunity to pay it back.
We hope to host this event again after the repayment period has ended around April 2025 - stay tuned!
Our comprehensive service specializes in compiling and submitting parole packets that effectively highlight the candidate's strengths and potential for reintegration. We meticulously craft a narrative that underscores the individual's progress, achievements, and readiness for reentry. Our approach goes beyond mere documentation; we lay out a successful reentry plan that emphasizes support, personal growth, and empowerment. By focusing on these key areas, we aim to present a compelling case for parole that demonstrates the candidate's commitment to a positive future, ensuring they have the necessary tools and community backing for a successful transition.
Assets Ascending provides direct services to connect returning parents with tangible assistance, encouraging independence while facilitating direct and meaningful connections within the community.
